REPORT ON GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING HELD ON 7 TH OCTOBER, 2017. PREPARED BY HON. BRIGHT KWABLA KLUDZI

The General Assembly, established by a constitutional act, article 30 is the highest
decision making body of the Student Representative Council. Its membership is made
up of;
a) The Speaker of the General Assembly
b) The Deputy Speaker of the General Assembly
c) The Clerk to the General Assembly
d) Governors of Hostels
e) Weekend Committee Chairman + 2 members
f) Foreign Students Association (FSA) President and Secretary
g) Presidents and Secretaries of all registered clubs and associations on campus
h) Class representatives and assistants

The first General Assembly organized by Andy-Asantewah led administration was a
colorful event marked by display of constructive constitutional argument between the
Senators and the SRC executives on matters of interest to the student body.
The onset of the sitting saw several honorable members, SRC executives and the
general student body march into the hall of the Computer School of DLI to catch a
glimpse of proceedings.
Indeed the first phase of the sitting saw peace fly over the house. It all started with
State of the SRC Address delivered by the president Mr. Andrew Akoto-Addo,
followed by ratification of the Deputy Speaker nominee, the Clerk, SRC PRO,
Appointed Association Heads and Club Presidents and the new senators by the Chief

Justice, His Lordship Mr. Francis Twum. Orientation was done by the General
Secretary of the council.
The Speaker then invited Financial Secretary of the council to present the budget
statement to the house for deliberation, and this marked the beginning with a drama.
Eloquent weekend committee chairman Hon. Sam Coleman identified flaws in the
copy of the budget presented to the Senators hence described the document as piece of
paper which is not worth a budget, and subsequently moved a motion for
adjournment.

The General Secretary supported by other executives mounted a spirited defense
quoting constitutional provisions and consistent references to the standing orders of
the house in favor of the Financial Secretary. This left the Speaker with no option than
to rule in favor of the Financial Secretary to continue with budget presentation.
The heated debate on matters of interest to the SRC continued throughout the meeting.
The Speaker, Right Honorable Isaac Atiemo Lartey exhibited great leadership skills
by allowing senators to make their submission within the remit of the standing orders.
He concluded by directing the Financial Secretary to prepare the budget and present to
the house on its next sitting.

FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING BY THE CURRENT SRC ADMINSTRATION

In short, the awesome meeting helped shaped the policies and programs of the less
than two months old Andrew-Ansantewah led administration and the sitting was
historical and its success and failure at serving the interest of students is a judgment to
posterity. Yes the purpose of a student leader is to serve and speak for the masses.
Loquens Pro Missis
Thank you.
