Professor Stanley Saamoah Moffatt
BIOGRAPHY
Professor Stanley Saamoah Moffatt is a Professor of Biomedical Sciences with expertise in Molecular Virology, Pathology and Biomedical Nanotechnology, He had previously served in various positions such as Dean, Director of Quality Assurance, Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Regent University College of Science and Technology.
He attended Achimota School (Accra), where he obtained his GCE Ordinary Level and GCE Advanced Level Certificates in June 1982 and June 1984 respectively. He continued to pursue his undergraduate studies at the University of Ghana and graduated with BSc (Hons) Degree in 1988, after which he had a one-year stint as a research assistant in the virology unit of Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (Ghana).
He obtained his combined MSc and PhD Degrees in Molecular Virology and Pathology at Tohoku University School of Medicine (Japan) in 1996. He also holds Certificates in Quality Assurance in Higher Education (CQAHE) from the Central European University, Vienna, Austria; Nanotechnology (CiNant) from University of Pretoria, South Africa; and Cell & Genetic Therapy (CGT) from University of Missouri, St. Louis, USA.
His teaching and academic career, which began at the University of Ghana, took him to Japan, and later, United States of America until 2009. Before relocating to Ghana, he had completed stints as an academic at three universities in the USA: namely, Purdue University, University of Texas, and NOVA Southeastern University in Florida. Prof. Moffatt is a consultant assessor of university examinations for all categories of biomedical sciences including Molecular Virology, Gene Therapeutics and Molecular Genetics. He has also provided consultancy services on quality assurance for several private Universities in Ghana. Other consultancy services he has provided for more than ten years include assessing and accrediting tertiary institutions for the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
He is an External Assessor and Examiner for many national and international tertiary institutions including the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana), University of Cape Coast (Ghana), Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI, Nairobi), University of Ibadan (Nigeria), and the University of Pretoria (South Africa).
Prof. Moffatt is an international scholar par excellence and has for many years served on several boards and committees of many local and international organizations including the International Association for Virology, International Association for Viral Gene Therapy, and International Association for Viral Nanotechnology.
He has also served as panel Chair for several international Conferences on Virology and Gene Therapy. He was the Chairman for USA, Europe, Caribbean, Nanotechnology Initiative (USECANI) from 2010 – 2015.
He is a Fellow of the International Association of Nanotechnology (IANT); associate of MD Anderson Cancer Center fellows (AMDACC), USA; member of American Association for Virology (MAAV), USA; member of American Society for Cell and Gene Therapy (MASCGT), USA; member of American Association for Cancer Research (MAACR), USA; and the President of Ghana National Nanotechnology Initiative (GNNI).
He has authored/co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, 5 books (human physiology, pathobiology, nanotechnology, nanomedicine, molecular pathology), 4 book chapters, and produced a total of 41 Scientific/Technical Reports/Conference papers in Molecular Virology, Gene Therapy, Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine.
He is an international expert in viral gene therapy for familiar human disorders and has authored one world reference book on the molecular underpinnings of human genetic disorders entitled Molecular Pathology.
In the pursuance of his research activities in Molecular Virology and Pathology, he has travelled to thirty-one (31) countries across the globe where he has gained high international recognition for his work.
He is the Editor-in-Chief of International Review of Applied Biotechnology and Biochemistry (India); Lead Editor of International Journal of Nano Studies and Technology (IJNST, India); Associate Editor of Significances of Bioengineering and Biosciences (USA); and also serves as a Reviewer of several International Journals including International Journal of Education Research (IJER, Nigeria), African Journal of Biomedical Science (AJBS), Journal of Therapeutics (JOT, Kenya), Journal of Applied Biotechnology (JAB, Kenya), India Journal of Nanobiotechnology (Springer, India), Journal of Infectious Disease Disorders (Germany), Drug Targets (France), among others.
Prof. Moffatt has accumulated more than thirteen (13) years of experience in private tertiary education in Ghana, and brings on board excellent skills in university administration, qualitative and quantitative research, curriculum development, quality assurance in higher education, and mentoring younger ones to contribute to national development through rigorous and empirical scientific research.
