Programmes

Programme Aims:

The rationale for the programme of the Department of Marketing is to develop students to be socially and ethically responsible through a well-balanced and integrated programme of study that provides them with the needed knowledge and skills to function more effectively in organisations.

The programme seeks to achieve the following specific objectives:

  1. To equip students with the requisite knowledge, problem-solving and strong business analytical skills, and attitudes needed to facilitate the performance of marketing
  2. To train students to acquire specialized skills and acumen to effectively manage themselves and
  3. To provide students with the requisite training for entry into higher degree
  4. To encourage students to seek opportunities to become self-employed.

Duration:  24 months

 

  • Objectives

    The programme is designed to prepare successful applicants to strategically manage their organisations’ financial and other key resources. The aim is to develop the graduate student’s knowledge in key financial areas as well as develop their business and leadership skills.

    The programme also aims at addressing the lack of management training of professional accountants and will broaden the knowledge of professional bodies and non-business graduates who have diverted into accountancy with the theoretical and empirical basis of accountancy missing in professional accountancy education. It will develop the financial econometric abilities of professional accountants required for the application of global accounting standards. The MSc Accounting programme is aimed at advancing thinking and debate on contemporary issues in financial reporting, management accounting, auditing and governance.

    Learning Outcomes for the Programme

    1. Provide students with advanced knowledge and understanding of the conceptual and applied aspects of accounting as an academic discipline at the Master’s level.
    2. Place accounting and auditing within students’ broader economic, behavioural, and organisational contexts.
    3. Provide students with the knowledge and skills to equip them for a range of careers in accounting, in professional accounting firms and the service and public sectors, and to prepare them for higher study and academic research in the area.
    4. Provide students with the opportunity to study accounting jointly with those study areas that are relevant for a proper understanding of the discipline. Such areas of study include quantitative and qualitative methods of investigation for formal research enquiry, finance and management information systems.
    5. Develop students’ powers of inquiry, critical analysis, and logical thinking and apply theoretical knowledge to current issues of policy and practice.
    6. To complete a research-based dissertation, which will allow the participant to advance his or her knowledge in an area of interest to extend their research further at the PhD level. 

    Programme Content:

    Financial Management, Managerial Economics, Financial Reporting, Management Accounting, Corporate Strategy, Ethics and Governance, Business Taxation, Advanced Auditing, International Financial Management, Investment and Portfolio Management, Financial Markets and Institutions, Advanced Qualitative Research and Advanced Quantitative Research Methods.

    Duration:  24 months

 

  • Programme Aims

     The programme aims at equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to manage logistics, transport, and general supply chain operations in their respective organizations. The program further aims to prepare students for truly multifaceted challenges, requiring a balance between theoretical and practical skills. This will be achieved through a programme that provides an intellectually stimulating environment, within which students will develop their skills in critical thinking and analysis, as well as improve their knowledge of, and strategic perspective on, the relationships, flows, chains, processes, and systems that pervade the freight transport and logistics arena both locally and internationally.

     Objectives of the programme are:

    • To equip students to improve transportation operations.
    • To educate students on how to examine and manage inventory reduction techniques more productively.
    • To improve the warehouse efficiencies with subsequent reduction in stock levels.
    • To train students on how the supply and demand chains work.
    • To ensure that students utilize modern purchasing management techniques.
    • To apply transport economic principles to evaluate the performance of a transportation system.
    • To equip students to identify and formulate logistics and transport issues critically, autonomously, and creatively through appropriate planning and the usage of appropriate methods, within predetermined time frames.
    • To educate students on how to effectively handle goods and services distribution.
    • To provide students practical skills on effectively evaluating financing options for transport acquisition and operations.

Duration:  12 months

The Programme Advantage

The Graduate School stimulate emotional intelligence, critical thinking and entrepreneurial mindset in our students at all levels through the Data Link Centre for Entrepreneurship and Professional Development. Our graduate students are well equipped with unmatched abilities in transformational entrepreneurship, leadership development, and research excellence. Also, residencies, seminars and symposiums are incorporated into our programs to encourage and lead students toward pedagogical writing and publication. We urge all graduate students to attend the seminar series on time in order to improve their research, communication, and scholarly writing skills.

Support: Student Success Advisors & Student Support Services

Since the success of our students is our biggest priority; every student is allocated a Student Success Advisor, who is primarily responsible for mentoring, guiding, and supporting the mentee student in their pursuit and completion of their programs of study. In addition, our Student Support Services provides a broad range of academic and other support services to all students.  Award of Degrees

The School offers degrees leading to the award of Master of Philosophy (MPhil), Master of Science (MSc.), and Master of Business Administration (MBA), Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), and Doctor of Education (DoE), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The presentation of degrees to successful candidates takes place in a colorful ceremony in the Harbor City of Tema, Ghana for and behalf of the Vice Chancellors of our mentoring institutions – University of Development Studies (UDS), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), IIC University of Technology, Cambodia, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, USA, and Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (JUST), China.

Flexibility: Tuition Payment, Teaching & Learning Modes

We provide flexible installment tuition fee payment, and teaching and learning options that is suitable for all learners particularly, working class students. All taught courses are delivered in modules. We provide flexible option in course delivery through on-campus mode, off-campus mode and online.

Entry Requirements: Master Programs & Doctoral Programs

Candidates wishing to apply to any of the Graduate Programmes must have at least a Second Class Lower or better (or a Final Grade Point Average of at least 2.0), in the relevant field of study from any recognized/accredited University. Other professional qualifications may be considered for admissions into the graduate school after the determination of equivalence by our Mentoring Institution (based on the programme of study) and by the regulator, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
